There’s a constant tension in climbing, and really all exploration, between pushing yourself into the unknown but trying not to push too far. The best any of us can do is to tread that line carefully.” – Alex Honnold

Artist: Elle

Release: Trifles for a Massacre

Release Date: 29 December 2020

If we’ve learned anything from the prior year, it’s that human mortality has a permanent residence within our minds. Sometimes that mental entity leaves for days or even months at a time, but eventually, it will always arrive home to remind us that we are fragile beyond measure. This anticipated phenomenon is a kind of mental notification that our ego struggles to suppress. Of course, these happenings only exist in a place where only we as individuals could access – But Elle does an incredible job portraying this vision within his newest group of recordings.

Elle’s Trifles for a Massacre is a group of recordings that were inspired by a long and difficult year. Consisting of three live edits and a rework done by Ossa di Mare, these tracks are consistent in tone, yet wildly natural in regards to a humanistic atmosphere. What I mean by this, is the ultimate focus on space, mood, and time has the tendency to pull the listen into their own candid world – forcing them to think on their toes.

Let’s dive a little deeper into this..

This is most definitely not a dancing release, no sir it is absolutely not. Trifles forces you to think deeply about your life and get lost within your own thoughts; values, fears, wants, and your weaknesses. These four recordings have the power to send you to a mirror and force you to mentally deconstruct yourself in order to teach you a valuable lesson: What it means to be mortal!

Just like the personification of human mortality arriving home to the shelter within our minds, we as a species need to appreciate the blessings that already reside within our minds. We must force ourselves to understand how fragile we are as human creatures of this Earth. The world constantly reminds us of this fragility by showing us examples of mayhem, sadness, trifles of different forms of massacres… But within this darkness there is light; The memories of love, laughs, and exhilaration, the beauty of anticipation, the warmth and contentment of accomplishing goals and feats.

All in all, Trifles for a Massacre is an excellent example of the beauty that is Hypnotic music. The album teaches us that life is to be appreciated by counting blessings, but mortality is the epitome of inevitability. This is not to be forgotten.
