Not much is known about Cliche Morph besides his originating from Grodno, Belarus and that his music speaks for itself. With a discography released via respected techno mainstays, the mystery behind the man is a non-issue. Even so, our newest team member Antoine Stigr took some time to try and peel back a few layers.  Read on!

 

You’re on Semantica, Shipwrec / DSC, AFFIN, Granulart and now Midgar with a vinyl release in February; it’s pretty amazing! All these labels share a deep and timeless vision for techno music and are references in the techno landscape. Could you describe your own references? What is the most important for you when you start producing a track and what do you feel about it?

First, I wish to thank you for your nice words to me and for the invitation to interview as well. I don’t have any kind of schedule of music production. It may happen at any moment, a few times I even woke up in the middle of the night and continued to work on my material. Sometimes when I felt that the work is gaining momentum I didn’t pick up my phone when it was ringing or refused some invitations to hang out. Of course it’s all about my mood whether a track is gonna be dark or “good”. Sometimes a track may be finished in a week or month and sometimes it took a year, you never know. I just left them and then came back and brought them to their senses later. Usually I have 5 projects at the same time.

 

From non-linear rhythm arrangements to orbital techno landscapes — your sound is very mature and inspiring. Could you tell us a bit more about your workflow and your equipment? Where do you draw your inspiration from?

My equipment is rather simple. I use studio monitors Yamaha HS8, an audiocard and a notebook. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to buy expensive equipment. I spend all my money on vinyl records. Inspiration? Everything that’s going on inside or around me is my inspiration.

 

How is the techno / rave scene in Minsk and what do you think of it? Do you play a lot anywhere else during the year?

I’ve never been to party in Minsk, so I can’t tell anything about that. Few times I went to Poland for this purpose. Several time I organized party in my city. Unfortunately, I currently have not the best period in my life, so I have to refuse invite to gigs (either in my country, or abroad) and pause in CM project. When the time comes, I will share the reasons of it. Everything will be changed soon.

 

What are you doing when you’re not listening to music?

I spend time with my friends, I like to drive car, sport (especially football), watching movies, reading books …

 

What can we expect from you in the future? Some collaborations maybe; or an LP?

At the moment I have 2 planned releases in 2017. The 1st is the release on Midgar Records and 2nd on XXX (You will find everything out about it when it’s ready. Now it’s too early to speak about that). I also have works which are not planned, I think it’s gonna be more than 2 releases. Concerning collaborations… Well, I have some ideas, but it’s just ideas for now. And speaking of an album… Hmmm. We’ll see, everything is possible.
