KHIDI first came to my attention due to a Hypnus Records showcase back in September. At barely 3 months old, they are not to be left behind in any conversations about spaces in the Georgian capital Tbilisi.
The Space
KHIDI is a 2-room, 1,200 capacity club/event space situated inside the foot of a bridge over the Mtkvari river in the heart of Tbilisi, Georgia. Their focus is on high quality techno, house and alternative electronic music.
The 1,000 capacity main floor is equipped with an immense 4-point Funktion One sound system backed up with 12 compact F1 speakers on the sides which — together with an extensive (but minimalist) light plan — forms the heart of the club. The second, 200 capacity floor is also equipped with a well-tuned Funktion One system.
The Programming
2017 bookings include Daniel Avery, Matrixxman, Slam, Terence Fixmer, Broken English Club, Sebastian Mullaert, Jeroen Search & more. KHIDI has also selected 6 international residents for the new year: Boston 168, Luigi Tozzi, P.E.A.R.L., Phase Fatale, Regal & Stephanie Sykes.
These are exciting times for techno and the global underground. Spaces across Eastern Europe are rising from relative obscurity to showcase their passion for high-quality music. And in doing so, they are creating alternative spaces for ravers to call home. If this announcement is anything to go by, there is only more to come from Tbilisi and particularly from KHIDI. I look forward to seeing what that looks like in 2017.
