Three years ago we started a mission to spread techno culture with the Monument podcast. Due to a growing fan base and increasing presence in the scene we launched our magazine — mnmt.no — earlier this year. By tblaking this step, we felt it was time to establish a visual identity.
The goal was to create a new logo that represented what Monument stands for, namely promoting genuine techno. We wanted something clean, strong and recognizable. To accomplish this, we contacted the Danish designer Hans Pelle who works for Barkas. Hans was already a fan of our work, and immediately started sketching ideas with his colleague Jakob Hove. Here are their thoughts on what went into the work:
“I think we (Jakob and I) are both inspired by the aesthetics that live within the techno environment. Techno has this ability to be filled with energy, out of control and dynamic while also being super static and controlled. That is the feeling we tried to show. The logo consists of a logomark and wordmark. The logomark has the shape of an abstract M and is constructed with reference to soundlevels. It is outlined with a circle to give it the feel of a stamp. The wordmark is a custom-made typeface, built on top of the montserrat typeface. It is heavy-cut and tightly-kerned, which makes Monument look grounded and solid.”

This new logo and its elements stand for our commitment to keep growing and bettering our output. We intend to remain true to techno, its producers and its loyal listeners the world over; without the music and all of you, we would not be where we are today. As always, stay tuned for more from the team, and feel free to leave a comment on our statement.
